The Personality of a Blue Jay
Before we can find out what it means when you see a blue jay, let’s talk a bit about the personality of a blue jay. Doing this will help you understand the bird’s symbolism in your life.
Blue jays are known for their fearless nature, curiosity, resourcefulness, resilience, and above all, intelligence. Blue jays are among the most mischievous in the animal spirit world, causing chaos with their loud, nosy and curious personality.
These birds are brave and savage with their enemies. A blue jay will use combat tactics such as dive-bombing to chase away a predator invading its territory. Even when faced with a much bigger predator, the blue jay will not retreat; it will put up a fight and protect her family.
Blue jays are also very vocal. The loud signing and calling truly set it apart from other birds. The loudness can be annoying to fellow animals and humans alike. That said, other animals use the blue jay’s loud call, which alerts them of oncoming predators, giving the wild animals time to flee or put up a fight.
This bird is practical and resourceful. It can build its nest anywhere, as long as the location is safe and functional for its family. In addition, the blue jay’s intelligence is sometimes associated with being a trickster. The bird can mimic the sound of other birds, including hawks, depending on the situation the blue jay finds itself. The bird will mimic a hawk’s voice when defending against the hawk or protecting its territory against aggressive predators.
Not being one to shy away or back down, a blue jay is not afraid of humans. When the bird spots you and takes an interest in you, it might follow you around. When you see a blue jay following you, don’t worry; the bird is curious to find out about you and is trying to be friendly.
As you can see, a blue jay has many great attributes. When you see one, you can rest assured that the bird brings with it a good omen.
What Does A Blue Jay Symbolize?
We can deduce what a blue jay symbolizes based on our facts about this bird’s personality. Here are a few blue jay symbolisms:
1. Aggressiveness and determination
A blue jay is linked to curiosity, determination, and aggressiveness. They are often described as nosy birds, but this characteristic helps jay remain aware of everything in its environment to avoid being caught off guard by the predator. Seeing a blue jay could mean that you need to up the ante on your aggressiveness and determination, especially if you are undergoing a stressful or challenging period.
When a male and female blue jay come together and start mating, they mate for the duration of their life without seeking out other mating partners. For this reason, the bird represents faithfulness and togetherness.
Seeing a blue jay may be a message from the Universe that you need to reevaluate and nurture your close relationships. It could be one or more of these relationships are not doing too well and need repairing. Alternatively, if you are lucky to enjoy a healthy relationship with someone, sighting a blue jay could be a reminder to be grateful for the amazing relationships in your life.
The blue jay is known to make fast moves and take advantage of opportunities when they arise. Still, they are strategic, and their decisions reflect intelligence.
For example, while many birds take their sweet time to locate a spot to build nests, the blue jay works with functionality—if a spot is functional enough and safe, the bird will build her home there. Not being one to pass up on opportunities, a jay will build nests everywhere and anywhere.
Is there an area of your life where you need to make a decision? Have opportunities been passing you? The blue jay might be sending you the message that you need to practice expediency to spot and seize opportunities in your life.
Blue Jay Animal Spirit Meaning
Animals can come into the physical world as a totem, spirit, or power animal. A totem is an animal you are naturally attracted to, and whenever possible, interact with. If you feel naturally drawn to the blue jay, this bird is your totem, and you might find yourself sighting blue jays regularly.
Blue Jay As A Totem Animal
If the blue jay is your totem animal, the bird sends you the message that you need to start speaking out and standing up for yourself. Your totem animal might also be calling upon you to stand up and defend others who might be unable to do so for themselves.
When a blue jay cries out at the sight of a predator, this cry also alerts other animals. In the same way, when you reclaim your power and courage, not only will this benefit you but others around you as well.
If you are in a period in your life where it feels like you need to strengthen your boundaries or to stand up for yourself or for someone or a cause you care about, seeing a blue jay is a clear go-ahead from the Universe.
Blue Jay as a Spirit Animal
A spirit animal is one that you see, dream, or talk about often. It espouses the innate qualities that make you the unique person you are, or their presence might be a sign that you need to cultivate certain qualities that are beneficial to you.
If a blue jay is your spirit animal, seeing the bird could signify that you need to work towards cultivating attributes such as resilience, strength, and a willingness to stand up for what is important to you. Remember, these are qualities the blue jay espouses and enable this bird to thrive in the wild.
Blue Jay as a Power Animal
As the name suggests, a power animal is an animal that is a symbol or source of inner strength. Suppose a blue jay is the animal you identify with as your power source.
You might see the bird often if you suspect disloyalty, unfaithfulness, or untrustworthiness. The sighting of the blue-feathered bird could be a message that you should trust your intuition; if you are on a fact-finding mission, the blue jay is telling you that you are on the right path and will discover the truth.

Power and influence

Watch out, danger
In the wild, the blue jay uses its vocal prowess to alert other animals of imminent danger. When you see this bird in your dreams, it could be sending you the message that danger or some hardship is lurking around the corner.

Are Amazing & Beautiful Birds
I’ve seen several today.
Lately I’ve been seeing a pair of Blue Jay’s every morning when I usually see a cardinal. Now that I’ve read about the 5 spiritual meanings of Jays, I had a realization that they were warning me about a relationship I was considering. I got the message (on the full moon!) and tried to amicably part ways. That’s when this person became hostile and began threatening me and my property! The message I got from my “Blue Angels” saved me from getting into a toxic, volatile, & most .definitely violent situation. Thank God for the timing of this
Never knew what is blue jay birds before, until my Mom passed away last year cause of Covid. And my siblings told me that the day my Mom passed never saw a blue jay at winter time in Canada, but on that day they saw a few flying around their front yard. Now that I knew the meaning every time I’m feeling down and going through something the blue jay always appear and looking straight still at me. I knew my Mom comforting me , guiding me and telling me No worries I’m here 🥲
Oh that’s so sad! Sorry about your Mom❤️❤️❤️ Our loved ones are still with us. My dad passed away 2017 and I pay really close attention to any signs from him! Mostly deer from him. I ask him to send a certain number and he does.
I have in past 2 weeks a blue jay chasing a hawk. I am not sure what the message is.
I have one in my backyard that just wants to build a nest out of my hair.
I had four of them falling me yesterday while walking my dogs. I stopped and listen to them as they were flying through the trees. Very odd I am going through some rough times in my marriage right now. Do you think that they are telling me something?
My Uncle (who I loved as a father) passed yesterday on Fathers Day. Today, I saw this beautiful bird in my front yard and had to seek its meaning. Thank you 💙
I just found a beautiful blue jay feather in my yard what does this mean if you find a feather
I have had one or two bluejays specking on my window everyday for the past six months. Sometimes they go away on the weekends but come back on Monday.
I lost my son 16 days ago and I was crying looking out the window and 2 bluejays flew in the tree in front of me and just stared. My son’s name is Jaydon. blueJay. Now I know when I see them it’s him.
The week before my dad died (his name was Jay) I asked him to come back to me as a blue jay. Since his death I have spotted many blue jays. One that even hopped up on my porch and hung there. I have also found about 20 feathers when I have never found a blue jay feather prior to his life. They are beautiful feathers so even if I wasn’t looking, I would have noticed. There is zero doubt in my mind it is him.
Last night I dreamed of a Blue Jay. It was a male. It flew around the room then came directly in front of me and looked right into my face. Then flew away. I did not feel threatened. He was beautiful. I’ve never had a dream like that before. I’ve been asking God to protect me and my family in my prayers. Then this dream happened.
