The Personality of a Blue Jay

Before we can find out what it means when you see a blue jay, let’s talk a bit about the personality of a blue jay. Doing this will help you understand the bird’s symbolism in your life.

Blue jays are known for their fearless nature, curiosity, resourcefulness, resilience, and above all, intelligence. Blue jays are among the most mischievous in the animal spirit world, causing chaos with their loud, nosy and curious personality.

These birds are brave and savage with their enemies. A blue jay will use combat tactics such as dive-bombing to chase away a predator invading its territory. Even when faced with a much bigger predator, the blue jay will not retreat; it will put up a fight and protect her family.

Blue jays are also very vocal. The loud signing and calling truly set it apart from other birds. The loudness can be annoying to fellow animals and humans alike. That said, other animals use the blue jay’s loud call, which alerts them of oncoming predators, giving the wild animals time to flee or put up a fight.

This bird is practical and resourceful. It can build its nest anywhere, as long as the location is safe and functional for its family. In addition, the blue jay’s intelligence is sometimes associated with being a trickster. The bird can mimic the sound of other birds, including hawks, depending on the situation the blue jay finds itself. The bird will mimic a hawk’s voice when defending against the hawk or protecting its territory against aggressive predators.

Not being one to shy away or back down, a blue jay is not afraid of humans. When the bird spots you and takes an interest in you, it might follow you around. When you see a blue jay following you, don’t worry; the bird is curious to find out about you and is trying to be friendly.

As you can see, a blue jay has many great attributes. When you see one, you can rest assured that the bird brings with it a good omen.

We can deduce what a blue jay symbolizes based on our facts about this bird’s personality. Here are a few blue jay symbolisms:

1. Aggressiveness and determination

A blue jay is linked to curiosity, determination, and aggressiveness. They are often described as nosy birds, but this characteristic helps jay remain aware of everything in its environment to avoid being caught off guard by the predator. Seeing a blue jay could mean that you need to up the ante on your aggressiveness and determination, especially if you are undergoing a stressful or challenging period.

2. Relationships

When a male and female blue jay come together and start mating, they mate for the duration of their life without seeking out other mating partners. For this reason, the bird represents faithfulness and togetherness.

Seeing a blue jay may be a message from the Universe that you need to reevaluate and nurture your close relationships. It could be one or more of these relationships are not doing too well and need repairing. Alternatively, if you are lucky to enjoy a healthy relationship with someone, sighting a blue jay could be a reminder to be grateful for the amazing relationships in your life.

3. Expediency

The blue jay is known to make fast moves and take advantage of opportunities when they arise. Still, they are strategic, and their decisions reflect intelligence.

For example, while many birds take their sweet time to locate a spot to build nests, the blue jay works with functionality—if a spot is functional enough and safe, the bird will build her home there. Not being one to pass up on opportunities, a jay will build nests everywhere and anywhere.

Is there an area of your life where you need to make a decision? Have opportunities been passing you? The blue jay might be sending you the message that you need to practice expediency to spot and seize opportunities in your life.

    • Lately I’ve been seeing a pair of Blue Jay’s every morning when I usually see a cardinal. Now that I’ve read about the 5 spiritual meanings of Jays, I had a realization that they were warning me about a relationship I was considering. I got the message (on the full moon!) and tried to amicably part ways. That’s when this person became hostile and began threatening me and my property! The message I got from my “Blue Angels” saved me from getting into a toxic, volatile, & most .definitely violent situation. Thank God for the timing of this

I have also found about 20 feathers when I have never found a blue jay feather prior to his life. They are beautiful feathers so even if I wasn’t looking, I would have noticed. There is zero doubt in my mind it is him.

  7. Last night I dreamed of a Blue Jay. It was a male. It flew around the room then came directly in front of me and looked right into my face. Then flew away. I did not feel threatened.
